Converting PowerPoint to Flash
If you have existing PowerPoint slides and you wish to upload them as a course, it is highly recommended that you convert these PowerPoint into Flash as:
- PowerPoint is not a great format and users will need to have PowerPoint installed on their computers to undertake the course. Although uploading it as a PowerPoint show (pps) might be an option, it is still not as powerful or cost efficient compared to swf
- Flash format is widely compatible and supported. SWF or Flash files are compatible with most operating systems (platforms) and most devices, including handheld devices
- Flash files are accessible. Most browsers have the flash plugin installed, which makes it easier to play the converted PowerPoint presentations, as additional software is not required
- Flash makes files smaller in size and more flexible. Flash files are highly compressed and therefore, the preferred streaming media for the internet, or for file distribution. A PowerPoint presentation, when converted to Flash, is only up to a tenth of the ppt file size.
- SWF is resolution friendly. Flash files are friendly with any size or display resolution. This makes them easy to handle across various device display sizes.
- Flash files are very secure. PowerPoint presentations can be easily edited, while Flash files are more secure. SWF files also do not pose any security threat, therefore, these are not sifted at firewalls. This ensures seamless delivery.
To easily convert your PowerPoint presentations to Flash for free, try iSpring:
http://www.ispringsolutions.com/free_powerpoint_to_flash_converter.html
- Once you have downloaded the application, open up PowerPoint. iSpring will be the last item on the ribbon
- Open up your existing PowerPoint slides which you want to convert
- Check the animations and transitions for each slide
- You can also vamp it up further, by adding narration or audio to each slide by clicking onto iSpring Pro Record Audio or Manage Narration
- You can also set it up to make it look like a video (i.e. no need for learner to click through to next slide. All you need to do is to at Transitions>Timing, set it to advance to the next slide after a certain number of seconds or at the end of the audio / narration on the slide).
- Once you are satisfied with your set up, all you need to do is to Publish it to your preferred flash output - e.g. All in one Flash file, generate to html or exe or into zip. For CS Integral Induction (older version), you will need to publish it as a Desktop (Flash) file and ensure that the Zip output is NOT selected
- Thereafter, you are ready to upload it into CS Induction as a video
