The technical definition for SCORM is: Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), a collection of standards and specifications for web-based electronic educational technology. It defines communications between client side content and a host system, which is commonly supported by a learning management system. It allows the presentation to incorporate several features and permits information to be passed from the presentation to Lucidity. In laymen's terms, this means that eLearning that is a SCORM presentation (in the form of a .zip file) can be tracked by Lucidity Software to determine if the user has opened every page of the presentation. It also bookmarks presentations, allowing users to view half a presentation and return to where they left off at a later date. If a plain PowerPoint file, for example, is used as a resource, it will download for the user and the system has no way of knowing if the user has opened the file and viewed each page.
