Definition of Fields

Resource Type

Select 'File' if a file is to be uploaded

Select 'Link' if an external link is to be used

Resource NameEnter the Resource name
Upload

If the resource type is a file, click 'Upload'

In order to be a SCORM presentation, the file uploaded must be a .zip file

For more information on file types to upload, see the 'Resource Material' section on this page in the User Guide.

Warning
titleUnpacking Time

When uploading SCORM files, it is important to allow the system at least 5 - 10 minutes to "unpack" the files. Prior to this the resource will display as a .zip file and not a SCORM file. Saving, logging out and then logging back in can also assist in this process.

Link AddressIf the resource type is a file, copy and paste the URL
DescriptionEnter a description or instructions relevant to the individual resource, such as 'read the full document then return to this page to complete the assessment.'
Display in Popover

Tick to enable the resource to open in an 'popover' window i.e. it sits in front of the course navigation screen.

This enables a 'close' button to be displayed in the presentation.

Warning
titleResponsive Presentations

The popover option is NOT recommended for responsive eLearning resources (ie - content that adapts to different devices such as mobile phone). Errors may display in presentations when this is selected on mobile devices.

Time Delay (seconds)

Enter time delay in seconds

The time delay inserts a pause before the close button appears. In other words, setting a time delay can help prevent a user from closing the resource before completing it. The close button is disabled until the time delay is reached. If the resource is not SCORM, depending upon the number and length of the slides/ presentation format, it is recommended to set the time delay for at least 2 minutes.

Note this feature can only be utilised in conjunction with the 'Display in Popover' option

Info
titleSCORM

The technical definition for SCORM is: Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), a collection of standards and specifications for web-based electronic educational technology. It defines communications between client side content and a host system, which is commonly supported by a learning management system. It allows the presentation to incorporate several features and permits information to be passed from the presentation to Lucidity.

In laymen's terms, this means that eLearning that is a SCORM presentation (in the form of a .zip file) can be tracked by Lucidity Software to determine if the user has opened every page of the presentation. It also bookmarks presentations, allowing users to view half a presentation and return to where they left off at a later date.

If a plain PowerPoint file, for example, is used as a resource, it will download for the user and the system has no way of knowing if the user has opened the file and viewed each page. Therefore, the module is marked as complete immediately, even if the user hasn't opened it at all.

However, if the PowerPoint or PDF is converted to a SCORM file, the system will only mark the module as complete when every page of the PowerPoint has been opened. Therefore, it is recommended that all resources are SCORM where possible.

There are a number of software packages used to create SCORM and HTML5 presentations. Important settings include:

Note
titleResource Development

Lucidity Software does not offer an eLearning development service. There are many providers that can do this.

Alternatively, internal development of eLearning can be done by purchasing eLearn authoring software such as Articulate or Captivate. There are also several simple tools available which can convert PowerPoint files to SCORM files, such as iSpringThese are the market leaders in full eLearning authoring tools, have a large learning curve and are expensive. They allow for the creation of interactive eLearning and content is only limited by the author's imagination.

For those looking to convert a simple PowerPoint or PDF to a SCORM file, there are several simple tools available such as iSpring (download add-on tio PowerPoint) or ScormHero (online tool).

Use the below links for details on how to prepare and export a presentation using Articulate, Captivate or iSpring:

Lucidity can assist with the conversion of resources to SCORM files for a small charge if required.

Info
titleSCORMHERO

ScormHero is a relatively new tool that Lucidity recommends for conversion of basic files to SCORM. Simply drag the resource into the Scorm Hero website where it will automatically be converted into a .zip file. The .zip file can then be downloaded and used as resource in Lucidity Intranet.

SCORM HERO can be accessed here.
