BI using AWS QuickSight

We simplify the process for clients who wish to have the benefits of a fully featured BI environment, but don’t wish to set up their own BI tool and create the required database connections and visualisations from scratch.

We pre-configure QuickSight with a connection to each customer’s Lucidity database and a standard suite of dashboards upon which they can build.

An example of how this may look is displayed below.

How do you get access to the dashboards?

By logging into QuickSight using the URL and credentials supplied by Lucidity - https://quicksight.aws.amazon.com/sn/start

or via the mobile applications:
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/latest/user/using-quicksight-mobile.html

Can you create your own visualisations (charts, tables etc)?

Yes, using an essentially open ended set of visualisation tools within QuickSight. You will need to use the QuickSight Author account to edit visualisations

How many people get access to the dashboards?

1 x ‘Author’ and up to 50 x ‘Readers’ (Readers are supplied in blocks of 5).

Authors create visuals and analyze data, while Readers can view visuals, including adjusting filters such as date ranges.

Can you work with templates, or do you need to build everything from scratch?

Lucidity provides a standard set of visualisations as part of the QuickSight setup. These can be adjusted by the client using the Author login. The Author can also create new visualisations from scratch. Visualisations created by Lucidity or the Author can be accessed by users with a Reader login.

Standard visualisations include (depending on module access):

  • Access/HR module

    • Total Number of users

    • Number of users logged in the last 30 days

    • Users logged in by date

    • Total number of users by type

  • Inform

    • Total number of records

    • Records created by day (over the last month)

    • Cumulative total of records

  • Competency

    • Total number of competencies

    • Number created over a period of time

    • Competencies count by capability (table)

    • Cumulative total of records

  • Incidents

    • Total number of incidents

    • Incidents by type

    • Incidents by status

  • Actions

    • Total by module

    • Actions created per day

  • Attachments

    • Total number of attachments

    • Number added per week

    • Cumulative total of records

How do I generate visualisations that are not part of the standard set?

Once your BI access has been setup and configured to your service you are then able to generate insights into your data. You can create new visualisations in 2 ways:

  1. The Author account can easily modify and add new insights. There are no limitations on AWS QuickSight access.

  2. Engage Lucidity Software on a per hour fee

How do I access support?

QuickSight provides a range of educational information via their website - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/. In addition, Lucidity Business Analysts can assist with the generation of specific visualisations within QuickSight (please see rate included above).

Security

AWS QuickSight is managed in line with existing AWS hosting policies (VPC, security groups and firewall settings). Data is stored in the AWS Sydney data centre.
