Attaching Photos

ATTACHING PHOTOS

Photos can be included in a number of places within Lucidity as attachments. There are 2 ways to add a photo to the system:

  • Via the Lucidity App, and

  • Via the Browser.

The main locations that photos are normally included are as an attachment to a form within InForm, and as an attachment to an Incident.

Adding Photos via the Lucidity App

Photos can be added via the Lucidity App using the camera icon within the app on a number of screens. When a photo is attached, it can either be selected from the gallery within the phone or by taking a photo using the built in camera.

In both cases the following compression and resizing is undertaken before the photo is saved to Lucidity:

  • The photo is resized to a maximum dimension on the long side of 1280 pixels

  • .jpg compression is applied to the image so that the file size approximates 150kB to 300kB

Resizing and compression ensures that the a large number of photos can be attached to a record, and the data can still be transmitted using the 4G mobile network. The Lucidity App will usually apply a limit to how many photos can be attached to a particular form or record, in order to ensure that the record can be PDF’d once saved and the resulting file size is within reasonable limits for emailing.

The resizing and compression applied is relatively moderate, and has been designed to ensure that a page of typed text can be photographed and still read once compressed. Many Lucidity customers use the Lucidity App to photograph documentation such as SWMS and JSA’s as part of pre-starts. Its is important that these documents can be read once saved and compressed.

Adding Photos via the Browser

Photos can be added via the browser in many places within Lucidity. The photo must first be available on the computer or other device that is running the browser, and it is then selected for upload.

Lucidity does not apply resizing to images that are uploaded via the browser. If a user wishes to upload a high resolution, large dimension image for a specific purpose, the image will not be adjusted by Lucidity.

It is important to realise that if numerous large, high resolution images are attached to the one record, it may not be possible to generate a PDF of that record as the resulting file size exceeds practical limits. In this case the user has the option of compressing the photos before attaching them or splitting the photos into two or more records. In many cases the business process does not require a PDF to be generated, in which case the consideration can be ignored.
